Gokarna Beach Trek

Itinerary:



DAY 0: 


  • Depart from Bengaluru by 10PM. 

  • Overnight journey along with music and cool breeze.


DAY 1:


  • Reach the campsite and freshen up. 

  • Breakfast in campsite. 

  • Head towards Yana caves. 

  • Hike towards gigantic crystalline rocksof Yana. 

  • Drive to Gokarna and have self sponsored lunch on the way. 

  • Trek to beaches of Gokarna - Belekana, Paradise, Half moon, Nirvana and Om beach. 

  • Witness the mesmerising sunset at Om beach. 

  • Head back to campsite. 

  • Visit Mahabaleshwara temple ( traditional attire is a must ) 

  • Following have a delicious dinner, enjoy a musical night, or simply marvel at the beautiful night sky.


Day 2:


  • Wake up early morning and freshen up. 

  • Have breakfast at the stay. 

  • Drive towards MIRJAN fort. 

  • Visit the ancient MIRJAN fort. 

  • Drive towards Murdeshwara to visit the Murdeshwara Shiva statue which is the tallest Shiva statue in India. 

  • Lunch stop (self) 

  • Post lunch, we head to Sharavathi backwaters at Honnavara. Enjoy the boat ride ( self ) 

  • Visit Sharavathi kandla mangrove boardwalk. 

  • Head towards Jog falls ( if time permits) 

  • It’s time to head back to Bengaluru. 

  • Reach Bengaluru around 5AM (Monday) 

  • After all, all good things must come to an end.

Inclusions:


  • Entire travel by Tempo Traveller/Mini bus. 

  • Stay at campsite in Gokarna. 

  • 3 meals— 2 Breakfast & 1 Dinner. 

  • Trip leader throughout the trip. 

  • Entry tickets. 

  • Accommodation on sharing basis.


Exclusions:


  • Travel, Accidental, and Medical Insurance. 

  • Cost arises due to uncontrollable circumstances like bad weather conditions, landslides, or some public protest. 

  • Water sports or any activity other than mentioned in the Itinerary. 

  • Food - which are mentioned as self sponsored. 

  • Anything not mentioned under “inclusions”

Goraguntepalya - 9:30 PM 

Nagasandra toll - 10:00 PM

Things to Carry:


  • Soft copy of your Aadhar/Voter ID ( Mandatorily required for permits) 

  • Small backpack to carry your essentials during the trek. 

  • Water bottles - 2 ( 1L each ) 

  • Lunch box and spoon to carry your packed lunch. 

  • Rain coat / Bag covers in case of rains. 

  • A comfortable pair of shoes with good grip for trekking. 

  • Flip flops for lazing around the campsite. 

  • Torch / Head lamp to be used at night. 

  • Power bank.

  • Traditional Clothes for temple. 

  • Extra pair of clothes to change into once wet. 

  • Polybags to pack your wet clothes. 

  • Extra cash for meals not included in the itinerar. 

  • Shampoo / dettol antiseptic liquid / Sneezing ( Nashe ) powder to stay safe from leeches.

Information about the Place:



Murudeshwara:

  • Murdeshwara temple is located on a hillock which offers a magnificent view of the sea. 

  • The temple complex is famous for its tall Shiva statue which is around 37m high and is the tallest Shiva statue in India. 

  • The temple Gopura at 237ft is the second tallest in India. 

  • From across the beach, one can see the mammoth statue sparkling against the backdrop of a blue sky. 

  • There is also a huge statue of the Gitopadesha depicted in the lush garden here complete with a chariot. 


Yana Caves:


  • Yana rocks are an adventure seeker’s ultimate destination. 

  • The gigantic crystalline like rock formations of Yana stand proud and tall among the evergreen forests of the western ghats in Uttara Kannada district. 

  • At the top, a stunning sight awaits you : the awesome Bhairaveshwara and Jaganmohini shikhara. 

  • A cave temple dedicated to Lord Shiva lies below the rock surface. 

  • A popular legend associates with Yana holds that Bhasmasura, an evil demon, performed penance toLord Shiva and obtained the power of reducing to ashes anybody on whose head he placed his hand. An ungrateful Bhasmasura, however, soon decidedto test boom on his benefactor. To escape from him, Lord Shiva came to earth and hid in Yana. Lord Vishnu taking th form of beautiful woman Mohini, challenged the demon to a dance and made him to touch his own head and thereby reducing him to ashes.


Mahableshwara Temple:


  • Gokarna is home to the legendary temple of Mahabaleshwara which houses the atmalinga of Lord Shiva. 

  • Legend has it that Ravana, the king of Lanka performed penance on Kailasa hill. He pleased Lord Shiva and secured Atmalinga from him, but on the condition that the atmalinga will never be placed on earth, or else it will get fixed there. The devas learnt about this and were frightened that Ravana would become all powerful. They approached Lord Ganesha who in the disguise of a Brahmin boy tricked Ravana and kept the atmalinga in the ground which permanently got fixed here. 

  • Mahabaleshwara temple is built around this exact place.
